Affordable Burial & Ground Services

Planning a Burial or Graveside Service has many decisions that need to be made at the time of the death, some of those decisions can be made in advance to help the next of kin during this difficult time. Here are some of the things to consider when choosing burial services for yourself, or your loved one:

  • Choosing the Cemetery
  • Choosing & Purchasing a Cemetery Plot
  • Casket Selection
  • Burial Vault (if requested by the cemetery)
  • Choose Headstone or Grave Marker
  • Write the Inscription on the Headstone

At Mill Valley Funeral & Cremation Centre, we can provide service to any of the local cemeteries in and around Millbrook, ON. If you haven’t decided on which cemetery or burial location to choose, please feel free to contact our funeral director to discuss your options and answer any questions you may have. We understand this is a big decision and are here to help.

Burial & Ground Services Available

When choosing burial or graveside services you can go a more traditional route, or you can work with your funeral director to customize your services. Here are a few burial service options you will likely be presented with:

Traditional Graveside Service following a Funeral

A traditional burial service is held at the cemetery directly following a funeral ceremony, or in place of a funeral ceremony in some cases. When the hearse arrives at the cemetery, up to 6 pallbearers may be required to carry the casket from the hearse to the gravesite. If the casket is already present when the family arrives, no pallbearers will be needed.

Following the arrival of the deceased and their loved ones, a ceremony called “Rite of Committal” will take place before the ground committal.

Immediate Burial after Death (Graveside Service Only)

In some cases, a person may wish to have an Immediate Burial with a Rite of Committal taking place before being committed to the ground. Family and friends would be present in this case with an officiant conducting the Rite of Committal.

Immediate Burial after Death (No Service)

Along with having an immediate cremation, some people choose to have an immediate burial take place instead of having any services. Some people may choose to have a Memorial Service or Celebration of Life Service at a later date. This service can take place at our funeral home, a local church, community centre, or another location.

Burial of Cremation Urn

Even though a loved one chooses Cremation as their disposition choice, they may still request that their Cremation Urn be buried either in-ground or placed above-ground. This is called an interment.

You should consider speaking with our Funeral Director about whether an Urn Vault is required by the cemetery.

You may want to consider an above-ground burial, which we have plenty of space for, at our Little Lake Cemetery property in Peterborough. Contact our funeral director for more information.

Benefits of a Graveside Service

While there may be many reasons to have a burial or graveside service, here are some of the most common ones:

  • Provides a location for loved ones to revisit
  • Watching a loved one be buried can provide a sense of closure
  • Traditional beliefs and practices for some religions
  • Many consider a natural practice
