BAILEY, Michael “Mick” James

It is with a heavy heart and the deepest of sorrow we announce the passing of Michael “Mick” James Bailey. Michael was 74 years old of Cobourg, Ontario. He passed away peacefully Friday May 13th at his place of residence following a battle with gastric cancer. Michael was born in Toronto at St. Joseph’s Hospital June 24th 1947 to mother, Anna Marie (McAvoy) Bailey age 41 and to father, Joseph Wilbert Bailey age 39.

Michael spent his formative years growing up in the Grafton area with big brother Joseph Bailey, big sister Rosalie “Rosie” Bailey (Chidwick) and big brother John “Marty” Martin Bailey before returning with his parents to Toronto in 1963 as a young man at 16 years of age. Michael would soon find himself working as a tradesman in and around the Toronto area before suffering a tragic work related accident October 24th 1972, that would change the way Mick would live the balance of his life. Never a quitter, and at his core, always a fighter. Mick found a way to battle through his injury and build a new life. With many successes in business, Mick would go onto to be a magnificent mentor, a voice of reason with a sympathetic ear and big heart to his many friends and family for another 49 years. Michael had an impact on many lives, was a hero to many in so many ways and those who called him friend, were blessed to have known him. Michael is survived by his brother Joseph Bailey (wife Gladys) of Port Hope, sister Rosalie (Bailey) Chidwick (husband Ron) of Orangeville. Michael is also survived by his 7 nephews, 5 nieces along with numerous great nieces and nephews. Michael is pre-deceased by his father Joseph Bailey, his mother Anna Marie (McAvoy) Bailey and his brother John Martin Bailey. A Celebration of Life will be planned for late summer / fall.
